Over 200 new playable races for 5th Edition (5E)

The Tales of Arcana® 5E Race Guide features over 200 5E playable races for use as player or non-player characters in your 5E (5th Edition) campaigns. Inside you will find:

  • Over 200 new 5E-compatible races, including vampires, ghosts, cyborgs, and elementals
  • Male and female illustration for each race (except the Nameless and Slurrn)
  • Flying mechanics that don't restrict class options
  • Instructions on how to modify races to create your own variant races
  • Lore entries developing Arcana’s history, cosmology, nations, and other tidbits that can be used as plot hooks to inspire your future campaigns
  • Artist credit on the page where the artwork appears

This guide is essential for Story Masters and players who wish to go beyond traditional races like humans, elves, and dwarves. With the races in these pages, you’ll be able to reimagine your roleplaying games and create weird, fantastical campaigns. Even if you have no desire to play 5E, this guide is a great resource for worldbuilding.

Will you play as a forest-dwelling sasquatch or tree squid? Swim the murky depths as a grindylow or merfolk? Or perhaps entertain villagers as a toon or a clown? Perhaps your Story Master will have you square off in combat with the foul-smelling krampus or a band of mischievous kasa-obake? There are races here that will resonate with traditional players as well as newer or younger players.

Welcome, Arcanaut, to your next adventure!

The book is being retooled and will be availible in a "remastered" form, including in HC, in the next few months. This was due to the OGL issues from a few months ago.

This is a really interesting product though I feel it really could've benefited from some classes as well to reflect the setting better.
My biggest gripe is the incredible puerility of some of the choices. The author seems scatalogically obsessed and there are two races that are essentially 'people with arses for faces/arses all over their bodies.'
I guess its okay if that's your sort of thing, but I think some of these choices were a little unnecessary. For the most part, I enjoy the humour presented in this gonzo-setting :)

Looks good, has some interesting races in it, but as a GM I like to convert old d20 system stuff into 5e for our campaigns. For this reason I buy a lot of pdfs so I can see what has already similar concepts and copy paste them into my files so we can start playing quickly.
I really don't have the time to copy things manually and with over 600 pdfs on file it is not feasable to start looking every time I need one specific race or one specific concept out of one specific book.
So unfortunately since I cannot copy what I need out of this file, I have to say I just wasted 23 Euros for a pdf that looks great, but I will never use... sad because it looks like it could really have helped a lot especially right now where I need to convert a lot of races.
Now I need to put them on my black list to make sure I won't waste more money on their great but for my needs completely unusable products ;-(

Right off the bat, my two complaints are 1) it's missing the cover as shown in the preview images above. And 2), it's doesn't come with bookmarks, and it's locked so you can't add your own bookmarks.

Please provide a version either with detailed bookmarks, or an unlocked version so we can add our own bookmarks (preferred.)

Needs Bookmarks and the ability to copy and paste so I can just text dump into roll20 and other character sheets so my GM can read them.

I love using this for inspiration when DMing. Such a wild and crazy collection of concepts that that will leave even the most jaded group of players both confused and curious to learn more about a bizarre new creature they've never encountered before.

This is an amazing book, and it is so much fun and has such grand ideas.

Wish we could get a setting book to go with it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
